Charity at Girl Power Hour

Bringing awareness to local female-oriented charities is something we are passionate about and believe is our social duty. We have held shoe, accessory, gift, clothing and new volunteer drives and we work with Celebrated Chefs to raise money for our quarterly charity. Over the past two and a half years we have supported and featured many charities, including Women of Purpose, Soles 4 Souls, Dress for Success, The American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women, The Goodwill, The American Cancer Society, The Ruby Room, Washington CASH, WWISH, The Jubilee Women’s Center, Get Hitched Give Hope and the O Wines Charities.

For December we are featuring Jubilee Women’s Center. Jubilee provides transitional housing to approximately 60 homeless women and crisis intervention, drop-in, referral services, learning and technology classes or access to our free clothing boutique to another 500 women in crisis. Referrals come to Jubilee from homeless shelters, domestic violence programs, social service agencies, hospitals, churches, and the Community Crisis Line.

Women may live at Jubilee for up to two years, thus giving them the stability to make long-term systemic changes in their lives. While some residents stay for the full 24 months, the average length of stay is 14 months. In 2009, 79% of Jubilee residents made a successful transition into permanent housing and succeeded in breaking their situation.

Jubilee is led by the guiding principle that all women are to be treated with respect and dignity. By valuing the inherent gifts and talents of every woman, we focus on the positive place within her. This unique philosophy, coupled with our extensive support services helps women make permanent change from the inside out.

Their mission, vision and values exemplify how we at Jubilee are working tirelessly to promote the worth, integrity, diversity, empowerment, equity of women every day, no matter what her circumstances.
