"The beer's this way guys!"

Hot Chicks. Cold Beer, is the diary of a reformed beer-hater on a mission to showcase the softer side of barley and hops to a new generation of female drinkers.

Last weekend, I went to Coachella.

For those who aren’t aware, Coachella is a three-day, muti-genre concert bender with performances by some of the biggest names in music, cameos from celebrities and a signature boho-chic style profile. Held in Indio, CA, Coachella is a concert in the desert. How hot does it get in the desert? Very. Here’s a story problem to illustrate.

Q: Coachella concert-goer, Katie, spends eight hours on-site each day. She drinks an average of six, 12oz. bottles of water and three, 16oz. beers a day. The Coachella music festival is three days total and the average temperature is 108 degrees. How many times did she have to visit the Port-o-Potty corral?

Warning, this beer is NOT beer-pong friendly.

Hot Chicks. Cold Beer, is the diary of a reformed beer-hater on a mission to showcase the softer side of barley and hops to a new generation of female drinkers.

Accessories are important.

Watches tell time, belts keep your pants up but accessories, for beer? This I’ve gotta see…..

Enter, Churchkey Can Company. This is packaging from the days of yore; A time when drinking meant never forgetting your beer jewelry. Churchkey’s flat-top design scoffs at the ease of the traditional pull-tabs by requiring the drinker (or their friendly barkeep) to aggressively stab opposing sides of the can’s top with a church key (Think Hersey’s chocolate syrup).

Peanut-butter, Nutella…. BEER

Do I have your attention?

WELCOME, hot chicks (and the men who love them) to Hot Chicks. Cold Beer.

FYI: The bartenders are men.

Here’s the deal, over the past decade (OK, this is a guess-ti-mate, at best, but stay with me) there’s been millions of ‘writers’ (also an estimate) with internet access posting (Err, blogging) their personal musings with the assumption we’ll find something interesting in their angle, subscribe, share with our friends, and most importantly, rocket them into the digital, celebrity stratosphere.

I’m not one of them.

I’m not looking for celebrity. I prefer to stay well within the stratosphere at all times and all I’ll ask of you, is to have a drink.

Drink? I thought this was a soft-core site or something. I mean look at the name? I want chicks!

Obession with Necklace & Charms by zongher2 featuring heart jewelry

Project: Dainty, Pretty, Chain Necklaces  with Charm

I’m very much obsessed right now with dainty pretty charms and chain necklaces.  I’ve been layering chain necklaces three or more at once or just wearing one necklace simply alone.  To supply my obsession, I’ve been making my own necklaces and recycling what I have as well. This is a fun and quick DIY Project you can do literally in minutes.

Supplies:  craft wire cutters, craft pliers, jewelry clasp, chains,  and charms

The Secret:  Go to the bead store or a craft store and buy chains, measure them out and use them to make your chains.  Another idea is to go through your own jewelry box for chains you don’t wear and vamp up those.

Last year, Girl Power Hour founder, Darnell Sue, was chosen for the MSN re:discover Project. MSN travelled to 12 cities across the country to discover the soul of America’s favorite cities through the eyes of those who know.

Darnell and 3 other local tastemakers filmed for eight hours on a gorgeous by very chilly day. The experience resulted in a “Round Table” discussion with the likes of Angela Shen, owner of Savor Seattle Food Tours, Molly Moon, creator of Molly Moon Ice Cream and Seattle native and jazz musician, James, who engaged in an honest conversation about their favorite restaurants, shops and other spots in the Seattle area. Each “Insider” is also profiled and  featured in an additional video in one of their favorite spots. The series profiles all of their favorite places and them some, in a unique and exciting way! We are excited that our founder was chosen as part of this nationwide project!

Check out all the cities profiled by MSN, Darnell’s interview with MSN and her videos here: rediscover.msn.com. Be sure to click on Seattle! And who knows…you might just “re:discover” the city that you love!

Girl Power Hour is thrilled to announce Molly Mesnick will host the “Love You: Boost Your Wardrobe, Boost Your Business” makeover fashion show on February 16 at Neiman Marcus.

If you’re a fan of ABC’S “The Bachelor” (and, let’s be real, who isn’t?) you’ll remember Molly won the heart of Jason Mesnick, to whom she is now married. But we think of Molly as the fun, chic, super-successful girlfriend whose closet we’d like to raid and whose fashion advice we’d like to hear over a glass of wine! When she’s not working, playing sports with her stepson Ty, cooking with Jason, or hanging “in” with her family and friends, Molly is passionate about helping those in need, and she generously donates her time to give back to her community.

In preparation for our fashion show–and in anticipation of all the amazing makeover transformations we plan to see–we asked Molly a few fun questions.

GPH: What’s the best fashion advice you’ve ever received?
MM: Find a good tailor and use them for everything you buy! It is amazing how differently clothes can look when they are tailored to your body. Whether it’s a $10 top from Forever 21 or a $500 dress from Neiman Marcus, I always get my clothes tailored.

GPH: What trend are you most excited about for spring?
MM: Coral! I love having color in my wardrobe to offset all of the black and white, and coral is one of those colors that looks good on everyone.

GPH: Have you ever had a “makeover?”
MM: I haven’t had an official makeover, but I try to get to my favorite make-up counter once a season to get a new “face” for myself. I love changing up my look!

GPH: What’s your favorite item of clothing in your closet (a go-to favorite that you wear over and over)?
MM: My BDG Cigarette denim from Urban Outfitters! I’ve always felt that premium denim is so important in a wardrobe, but I can honestly say I’ve never had a better fit than my jeans from Urban. They hug in all of the right places, but also have a little stretch in them for comfort. With the silhouette of a skinny jean, I can easily dress these up with heels or dress them down with a pair of ballet flats–definitely my “go to” item!

GPH: If you feel like you’re getting stuck in a style rut, what do you do to break out of it?
MM: I’m online ALL DAY LONG looking at fashion blogs. This is honestly how I get ideas of what to wear. I’ve never considered myself a trendsetter, so I pay very close attention to the fashion industry, what’s hot/what’s not, and work it into my wardrobe accordingly.

Thanks Molly!

Join us and Molly Mesnick at Girl Power Hour, February 16th at Neiman Marcus.

This Latina-influenced designer grew up around Venezuela’s tropical towns and as a girl she was captivated by artistic expressions such as singing, painting and designing clothes. In 2004, Niveen packed her bags for Seattle to launch her career as a fashion designer. In November 2009 her eponymous label of Americana-Latina-inspired swimwear came to fruition under the name Adicora, inspired by Niveen’s favorite beach in Venezuela. Niveen is beloved by the Seattle fashion community, and she often lends her support to fashion shows and events as a host, producer and stylist.

Nicole Logan (@nicoleevents) Nicole is a Pacific Northwest native and sunny/warm weather girl by heart. Graduating from Wazzu with a degree in Psychology and a love for media and event production, Nicole has built an exciting career freelancing for various lifestyle and travel magazines, online publications and local blogs. Nicole brings her own unique love of fashion and style every where she goes, you rarely will find this busy media gal wearing a pear of flats or forgetting to accessorize her outfit.

Lauren Foster (@425Magazine) Lauren Foster grew up in Los Angeles but moved to the Pacific Northwest for school. As a staff writer for 425 magazine, her job is to explore Seattle’s Eastside. With an interest in personal style and artistic expression, she started covering the fashion scene. Her enthusiasm for the industry ranges from vintage T-shirts to Tiffany & Co. diamonds. She now produces 425 magazine’s photo shoots with a goal to highlight clothing styles that will appeal to the local demographic. Her motto for all things fashion is, “Classic looks never get old.”

Rose Dennis (@BelReporter) Rose Dennis has an extensive background in the corporate fashion and retail world. She is currently a columnist for the Bellevue Reporter and PR Manager for Seattle’s award-winning couture designer, Luly Yang. Rose is a respected trendsetter in the Seattle community. Sherrianne Garcia (@styled_seattle) Sherri Garcia is a laid-back West Coast girl with an East Coast eye for style. Sherri was born in New York but raised in Seattle, and her diverse upbringing inspires her unique perspective as the Lead Wardrobe Stylist at Styled Seattle, Seattle’s top personal styling company. Sherri fell in love with styling at one of the top bridal boutiques in Seattle. She also gained years of practical industry experience by styling at Nordstrom before joining GPH Event Director Darcy Camden at Styled Seattle. Sherri spends her days giving men and women lasting wardrobe makeovers, helping clients save time and money and teaching others to dress their best.

Kristin Puckhaber (@PUCKSKI): Kristen Puckhaber (also known as “Puck”) dove head first into the fashion industry after graduating from Western Washington University.
