Last weekend, I went to Coachella.
For those who aren’t aware, Coachella is a three-day, muti-genre concert bender with performances by some of the biggest names in music, cameos from celebrities and a signature boho-chic style profile. Held in Indio, CA, Coachella is a concert in the desert. How hot does it get in the desert? Very. Here’s a story problem to illustrate.
Q: Coachella concert-goer, Katie, spends eight hours on-site each day. She drinks an average of six, 12oz. bottles of water and three, 16oz. beers a day. The Coachella music festival is three days total and the average temperature is 108 degrees. How many times did she have to visit the Port-o-Potty corral?
Hot Chicks. Cold Beer, is the diary of a reformed beer-hater on a mission to showcase the softer side of barley and hops to a new generation of female drinkers.
Accessories are important.
Watches tell time, belts keep your pants up but accessories, for beer? This I’ve gotta see…..
Enter, Churchkey Can Company. This is packaging from the days of yore; A time when drinking meant never forgetting your beer jewelry. Churchkey’s flat-top design scoffs at the ease of the traditional pull-tabs by requiring the drinker (or their friendly barkeep) to aggressively stab opposing sides of the can’s top with a church key (Think Hersey’s chocolate syrup).
With the holidays ahead, November and December calendars are filling up, with social engagements, holiday events, friends and family in town. With the hustle and bustle of decking the halls, baking holiday goodies, getting to the gym, buying gifts and booking our holiday travel plans, it can be tough to slow down enough to remember part of what really can make the holidays memorable: Giving Back. Here are some events that will increase your joy while you help others in the coming weeks:
Kids or Kid at Heart: Nov 26th – Jan 2nd. Make the Wonderland Carousel at Westlake Park in downtown Seattle a holiday tradition! The $2 suggested donation goes to support the work of the Downtown Seattle Association and Treehouse, a local non-profit organization offering kids in foster care what all children so desperately need—a safe place to dream.
Cocktails for a Cure: Nov 30th. Nearly 20 wineries join Kimpton Hotels for this special party & fundraiser at Hotel Monaco. Your $30 goes to support Lifelong AIDS Alliance and includes cocktails and small bites from some of the area’s best chefs. Details here.

Caroling for the Hungry: December 3rd. Admit it, some of you are already playing holiday music at your desk! There’s nothing like holiday music to set the tone and get us in the spirit…and there truly is nothing like Figgy Pudding! Join the crowds in downtown Seattle around Westlake Center to listen to 40+ caroling teams sing their hearts out to raise money for the Pike Market Senior Center and Downtown Food Bank. Want to donate in advance? You can donate to one of the teams online, here.
Using the power of travel to make a difference: Nov 15th – Dec 13. Four Seattle-based women have created “Passports with Purpose” – a way for travel bloggers to come together and raise money to support non-profits around the world. This year 100+ travel bloggers will blog about this project and donate fantastic prizes. Each $10 donation you make enters you to win a prize of your choice (prizes include cruises, flight vouchers, hotel stays and more). 2010 donations go directly to Land for Tillers’ Freedom (LAFTI), to build a village for the Dalit caste or India’s “untouchables.” Find Passports with Purpose on Facebook, here.
Remember, Giving Back doesn’t always call for making cash donations. Donating your time to a cause can often be just as, if not more, valuable. Connect with area organizations such as Seattle Works or BEAN to find out more about volunteer opportunities.

On Thursday, April 22nd, The Four Seasons Hotel in downtown Seattle hosted a glamorous Girl Power Hour for 75 guests.
To keep the event intimate, we limited the guest list in order to showcase the space in a deserving manner. The event kicked off in the Spa on the 3rd floor where guests checked in and received the agenda for the evening.
Welcomed by the GPH team and a large circular table in the center stacked high with elegant and artistic hors d’ eouves that could have been mistaken for shots of alcoholic beverages, guests entered the waiting room. A generous display of cheese and other accompaniments teased the wall with a gorgeous display as well-dressed waiters passed trays of savory bites like halibut cheeks and mini pizzas. Read more
Events are held on the third Thursdays of the month in Seattle and on the first Thursday of the month on the Eastside, unless otherwise noted. Event themes and details are subject to change but please save the date for several exciting events in 2010!

This January, The Power Team was looking forward to kicking off our exciting 2010 line-up at BoConcept’s Seattle showroom for “Design You – Creating a Space That Reflects Your Style.” BoConcept is an international urban design retail store, and their Seattle showroom on Western Avenue was the perfect spot for Girl Power Hour’s January chic networking for women. From turquoise blown glass vases to beaded lamps and shag carpets – BoConcept is a design dream. We were more than thankful they were willing to shut down for the night for our private event – and let our Girl Power Hour attendees eat, drink and mingle among the fabulous room displays. I swear there wasn’t an item in the place that I didn’t want to take home for my apartment!
We’re kicking off our 2010 Seattle Launch at BoConcept on January 21st with networking, sips and tips to create your space, your style for “Design You.”
